no diagrams

Explain your system as a story.

no code on screen

From the repository to an animated presentation your client understands, with no code on screen.

A purchase, told by the residents

Repartments residents in a little shop: the stockroom has brought the product to the counter, the screen lights up with the order and the customer cheers.
  1. The customer, in a yellow top, presses Buy on the shop screen.

    the shop screen

    Someone presses Buy.

Each part of the system becomes a resident. This is the shop screen, where it all starts.

  2. The doorman, in a suit, nods at the door as he checks who arrived.

    the login

The doorman checks who it is.

The login becomes a doorman at the door: nobody gets in until he checks.

  3. The bearded stockroom worker carries the product from the boxes to the counter.

    the database

    The stockroom picks the product.

The database becomes the stockroom, which keeps things and brings them to the counter.

  4. The screen lights up with the order and the customer cheers.

    the response

    The screen shows the order.

And your client follows the whole flow without seeing a line of code.

Your client doesn't read diagrams. They watch.

What your client understands

Someone pressed Buy. The doorman checked who they were, the stockroom picked the product and the screen showed the order.

Three steps.

  1. Pick the repository.

Public or private. Repartments only reads, it never changes anything.

  2. The residents show up.

Each part of the system becomes a character, and each flow becomes a scene.

  3. Present.

Live in the meeting, as a video or as PowerPoint.

Take it to the meeting the way you like.

  • Live

You walk through the scenes, one by one, at your pace.

  • Video

To send before the meeting or keep in your portfolio.

  • PowerPoint

For those who want the file in hand to edit later.

  • Saved file

Opens again whenever you like, without signing in with GitHub.

It all started with a little building.

Repartments was born as the Building: a project that started open source, where you type a GitHub username and their public repositories become a little tower, each one with its own apartment.

As people used it, it became clear that this way of showing things could do more: explain a system to people who don’t code, like a client, a manager or someone in sales, with no diagram and no code on screen.

That is where the studio came from: a tool that runs on your computer and turns a repository into an animated presentation. It is in closed beta. The Building is still online; at the moment, its code is closed.

Your client's code stays with you.

  • Read-only: nothing in the repository is changed.

  • The new version runs on your computer: the code never goes to a server of ours.

  • No artificial intelligence reads the code.

  • At the moment, the Building’s code is closed.

Frequently asked questions

What is Repartments?

It turns a GitHub repository into an animated presentation: each part of the system becomes a resident of a little building, and each flow becomes a scene they act out. It is made for explaining a system to people who do not code.

What is the studio?

It is where you build the presentation: you open one of your repositories, private ones too, and prepare the scenes to show live, as a video or as PowerPoint. The old version worked on the website, signing in with GitHub; the new one runs on your computer.

Why is the studio closed?

To do it properly. It will come back as a tool: faster, more complete and running on your computer, without depending on a website. Meanwhile we would rather close the door than leave a half-finished version up. We are sorry for the trouble.

Is Repartments open source?

It started that way: the Building, which turns anyone's public repositories into a little tower, was born with its code open on GitHub. At the moment, its code is closed. The Building is still online for anyone to use. The new studio is being built separately and, for now, closed source too.

How do I take part in the tests?

Click "I want to test it" and leave your interest. When the new version is ready for testing, you will hear first.

Can I see anything now?

Yes. The Building stays open: type a GitHub username and watch their public repositories become a little tower. And this page's tour shows what a presentation looks like.

In your next meeting, show instead of explaining.
